Mark Ehlers has completed his 10th season as head football coach at Hempstead.
Coach Ehlers is extremely proud of the coaching staff that has helped the Mustangs to a 60-37 record (62%) over those years. Along the way the Mustangs have captured two Mississippi Valley Conference championships, four state playoff appearances, and seven city championships. The Mustangs have also captured six M.V.C. Fall Sportsmanship Awards over the ten years.

Bob Timmerman Hall of Fame Football Coach
Bob Timmerman was a 1959 graduate of Loras College and he lettered seven times in football and wrestling. He was named All-Catholic and All-American second team in football. He started wrestling and was the assistant football Coach at Carroll Kuemper, Rock Island Alleman and Wahlert High School. In 1966 he became head football and wrestling coach at Dyersville Beckman. He had winning records as head coach
at all of these schools. Beckman had
two undefeated seasons under Bob.
Coach Timmerman came to
Hempstead in 1974 as a social studies teacher and head football coach.
His teams were MVC Champions five times and City Champions nine times. The Mustangs were state semi-finalists in 1983, state runner up in 1978 and State Champions in 1979 beating West Des Moines Valley. The Mustangs went to
the playoffs nine times in 17 years.
Mr. Timmerman holds the record for most wins in Dubuque County with 159.
In 1991, Bob resigned as head football coach to become the freshman football coach. Next year will be his 49th year
of coaching football. His future goal
is for Hempstead to keep its two freshman programs going and to coach 50 years.
